Over 6 months sorting experience

Smart Cotton Lena (Cotton) was started and trained at WestWay Training Facility in 2008.  She has a great foundation and has sorted for over 6 months.  She is a very elegant mover and is quick to move on cattle.  She has excellent breeding, conformation and is a looker deluxe.  This mare is bred to cow and she does it well.

We just cannot say enough about the potential that this mare has.  She stops really hard, turns quick, flexes and moves out beautifully.  She clips, ties, stands for farrier, loads and is a very well rounded horse.  She has been off of cattle for 2 months or so and she is just wasting in the pasture.  She needs to be sorting NOW, she is ready!

Cotton has a back ankle that is large due to an injury as a filly.  She has been x-rayed and vet checked and has been found sound.  She has NEVER had a bad day or taken a false step on the ankle.
Cotton is a great mare and lots of fun! She has so much personality. Here she and Fenix let off some steam after a snow.
This video is Cottons first sorting practice since being off on pasture for 2 months.  We literally caught her off pasture, saddled her and here is what we got with no warm up.  We did this so potential buyers would get a good understanding of her personality and trainability.  She really retains what she is taught and has a great mind.  This was an intentionally slow practice day to warm her back up into sorting after so much time off.

Dual Hickory Solano (Jake) came to us at WestWay summer 2009.  We rode him on trail and worked cattle/sheep with him in the fall.  He did really well and showed good cow sense.  We put him to pasture for the winter to gain weight as he came to us a bit thin.  Jake has been put on the back burner by others in the past and therefore he just hasn't been finished in any particular event.  We feel that he could make a very nice sorting prospect, but he will not start sorting training until late winter, early spring.  He is broke well enough, but he could use a tune up after the winter off.  He is just a nice fellow with a good build and small, sturdy conformation.  He has nice low hocks and moves well.  He has a nice head and eye appeal.  If he doesn't sell this winter, we will start his sorting training.  His price will rise with training.  We will try to get some video as we start riding him more.

Tejon Roan (aka Roanie) is for sale by Red Horse Ranch.  Roanie is a really great minded horse that most anyone can ride.  He has taken care of beginners and been competitive for experienced riders.  He can do anything and loves to work cows.  We have begun training him to team sort and he is doing really well and loves it.  He is the type of horse that a competitior could take in the pen and win on and then turn him over for the family to ride at the show.  He has been roped off of (heading) and has lots of trail miles.  He has tons of hauling on him and is not skittish or spooky.  Roanie is a top of the line guy and can go any way you like.  Roanie is raised and trained by Debbie Fields of Red Horse Ranch.  Contact Red Horse Ranch for details or to see Roanie.

Chilli is one of the friendliest, quietest youngsters we have ever seen.  This little guy has been with us since 3 months of age and is very comfortable with people.  He has been saddled, stood tied, trimmed, longed and handled from 3 months on.  We have put 5 rides on him and he has been very quiet and ok with the whole process.  He is very soft and flexes well and is learning to one rein stop.  We think he will make a good family horse with more training and/or a fun cowhorse in the future.  He does bite at the cattle in the pasture and may like that type of work.  He is not easily spooked and is a lazier type personality.  No bucking under saddle, no problems with him at all so far.  He is too young/green for a beginner to ride (due to a beginner riders inexperience in cues).  Someone with a bit of experience breaking horses could make a very solid little gelding here.  Nice conformation, with a strong, short back and good bone in his legs.  His color when he sheds off is gorgeous.  We will continue to ride Chilli until he is placed in just the right home!
This is the first time Chilli was ever mounted.  As you can see, he just did not seem to care too much and did very well on his first ride that day!

Note:
We do not "cowboy" our horses and are interested in selling them to trainers/owners who are true horseman and who use firm but humane training/riding methods. If humane methods are your style, please feel free to call us about any of our horses for sale.

AQHA Mare

7 yr. AQHA Mare

Has 90 days training
Loves to cover ground on long trail rides!
If you need a mare with a motor, this is your girl.
No bucking or mean habits.
Might make a fun team sorting horse with more training (we started her on cattle)

Lucky is a mare on a mission.  She would be great on long trail rides.  She loves to cover ground and go somewhere!  This mare is very athletic and can go all day.  Someone who wants a mare to trail ride or check cattle/livestock on a large acreage would love her.  She is only on her third month of training and we have hauled her to a few team sorting shows, checked/gathered cattle on her and ridden her on the trail.

This mare is very sensitive to leg cues and is currently working on the beginnings of vertical flexion.  We are also working on slowing her gaits down.  She is not a run off or uncontrollable....in fact she one rein stops like a champ and is very soft and flexible.  She does need a rider with good cues and soft hands.  We see so much potential in this mare and think that with the right rider, she can really become a great horse!  As you can see, she is so cute.  We ride Lucky in a rubber broken snaffle.

We got lucky after she was matched with the wrong trainer.  We believe the trainer did not understand this type of horse (sensitive, fast and smart).  We have had Lucky for 90 days and she has made SUCH a turnaround.  Lucky is a mare that needs lots of positive training, she does not respond well to an overbearing training style, but responds very well to a natural horsemanship approach to training.  We have a real attachment to this little mare and have seen her come 180 degrees from 3 months ago!!!   She has never bucked, run off or been malicious in any way while here.

Just because we have included so much detail, that does not mean Lucky is a problem or dangerous... we just really want things to work out for her and we think finding just the right person to have her is the only sure fire way this mare can become what she has the potential to be.  Even while she is re-learning, riding her has been really fun, because she has responded and learned so well.
We have been hauling Lucky this week and riding in many different places.
